Dorene Nolan has been studying herbal and holistic therapies for the last 10 years. She holds a BS from Rutgers University in Nutritional Science and is certified through the N.E. School of Botanical Medicine and through the Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanical Medicine. Her years of training as an herbalist in both Western and Eastern philosophies has given her the ability to look at the body, mind, and spirit from many different angles.
Dorene has been teaching herbal and holistic heath care for the past four years in her local community of Mount Airy, Philadelphia. She continues to offer workshops and herb walks in order to spread the amazing knowledge of the plant world to those around her. Dorene has also completed a course of study in Shiatsu at the Massage Arts Center of Philadelphia. This Eastern style of bodywork compliments her practice of herbal medicine, creating a well-rounded system of holistic health care.
One of Dorene’s greatest skills is her ability to really listen to her clients. She listens not only to what clients verbalize, but to what their bodies tell her during each session. And always, she listens without judgment. The art of mindful listening gives Dorene the intuitive and practical knowledge that allows her to address the needs of her clients in a profound way. She feels that an ability to listen deeply is essential to formulating a treatment session tailored to the specific needs of each client.
Dorene brings a unique set of experiences to her field. Her artistic background has provided her with an ability to use her intuition through her hands, which helps her to follow the physical and/or emotional shifts that her clients experience during treatments. She also has personal experience with a chronic health condition that helps her to identify with the challenges her clients face. She draws upon these tools in her practice in order to give her clients outstanding holistic healthcare.
Her knowledge of herbal medicine and health conditions allow Dorene to give a balanced view of various health issues. She has had a great deal of experience working with clients who feel dissatisfied with the medical advice they have been given. Her experience with a wide range of health conditions allows Dorene to offer her clients the resources they need to become empowered and in charge of their own health.
Dorene also loves to teach people how to care for themselves. She feels that modern culture has taught us to rely too heavily on what others tell us about how to take care of ourselves. To this end, she finishes each Shiatsu session with a self-care suggestion, and each consultation with a tea or tincture that can be easily reproduced at home. Dorene regularly holds classes and workshops at Orion’s Light on the subject of herbal medicine and the preparation of herbal remedies at home.
